Hi, I’m Saavan! I live in Austin, TX, where I design the future.
I’ve loved making things for as long as I can remember, and wrote my first program when I was 11 years old, just two weeks after my dad brought home some computer parts that I taught myself how to build.
The only thing I loved more than computers as a kid was chess. When I was 3, my mom first introduced me to the game. I enrolled in local tournaments at the age of 4, and began competing out-of-state soon thereafter. Growing up middle-class, chess took me to places I never thought I would see. After ranking 5th in Texas and 20th in the nation, I retired from the competitive scene, on the search for something new.
In high school, "that something new" was the debate team. Debate taught me how little I truly knew, and it was the greatest lesson I ever learned. My greatest weakness - public speaking - became my most important weapon as I navigated arguments with efficiency. I went on to graduate as Texas state champion and ranked 8th in the nation.
I stayed in my hometown to attend The University of Texas at Austin where I double-majored in Computer Science and Business Honors. Outside of class, I competed in hackathons, volunteered through my non-profit, Momentum Scholars, and practiced long-distance running.
During my tenure at Google, I spent my days designing AppSheet with React / Redux, building Lighthouse in Chrome DevTools with state-of-the-art browser knowledge, optimizing the runtime performance of Google Cloud Dataflow by 900% using Python, leading the Indus Googler Network for Austin, and acting as a WCAG subject matter expert for accessibility curriculum development.
Now, I spend my time with startups - whether that be through a venture of my own or through an existing team - with the goal of moving the world forward through innovation and technology.
